Trees In The Mist
It’s been foggy all day, something that’s quite unusual. Usually, the sun would burn away any fog by midday but it’s lingered on today for some reason.
I went down to the Gun Powder Mills this morning and took this photo. Originally, it didn’t look very special but when I hit the Levels->Auto button in The GIMP this is what happened! I’m really pleased with the result as it’s abstract and looks kinda like a painting. I wish I could claim that I spent hours manipulating the photo but I didn’t. I only cropped it a bit and darkened the water slightly. Have a look, I think you’ll like it!

Wow! a small bird flew into the office a few minutes ago! It landed on a chair, I spotted it, grabbed my camera, but it disappeared again. It came in again a few minutes later and I had my camera ready and took a few pics, none are great as it’s very hard to take photographs of a fast-flying and agitated bird in an enclosed space. I grabbed a bin and spent the next 5 minutes trying to capture it, with Kevin’s help we managed to get it into the bin and covered before letting it go outside. I heard the bird chirp 3 times as it flew away.. (wipes tear from eye)

I never had much use for transparent terminals. They annoyed me, but with my own photos on the desktop it’s kinda nice to see familiar scenes in the background of my terminal as I work.
Here’s the settings I use with MGT:
I like having a light coloured background (black on light yellow) so here we go..
Settings->Tab Preferences->Image
- Check the “Transparent” box.
- Set “Shaded Background” to 41%
- Set “Adjust Contrast” to -69%
- Set “Gamma Correction” to -14%
- Tint the background with whatever colour you like.
The aim would be to get a lightly transparent image, that’s discernable but not distracting. These work for me, but YMMV!
