Empire USA
On The Last Word they had a guy talking about the USA and international affairs in the Middle East.
He talked about the idea that the USA is a modern day empire, that Americans didn’t even think of it as an empire, they became quite agitated when confronted with this idea and he covered a lot of other issues too.
He also pointed out that empires always come to an end, and the end may already have started to happen.
I just wish Today FM archived clips like RTE do so other people could hear it, no, I don’t remember what his name was, I only caught the last few minutes of the interview while driving home yesterday.

Blood Diamonds
I read National Geopgraphic and they have an excellent article on diamonds which led me to do a Google search where I found Testimony of TONY P. HALL before the Trade Subcommittee of the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. “Mr. Speaker, many of us are gravely concerned about the role the trade in diamonds has in fueling some of the most brutal wars in Africa.”
