What Were You Filming?
Wow, if this guy’s experiences are anything to go by it’s getting a lot harder to enjoy a photography hobby in the States these days.
But then I’ve heard stories of tourists in Greece being arrested when they photographed planes while on holiday. I made sure to keep my camera pointed well away from the sky when I was in Crete a few years ago!
Here’s another story from that thread. Who says it’s only the Philipines that have given in to the terrorist threat?
Cobh Ramblers delighted with return of Man Utd skipper Keane
Well, shows how much I know about sport! Man Utd were in Cobh on Saturday and I didn’t even know it! Here’s the story behind it, and an old photo of Roy Keane when he used to play for Cobh Ramblers!
Luckily, a friend Catherine was there and she had a press pass! Hopefully some of her great photos will appear in WhazOn soon!
Facing the WTC – a protest
A loft appartment facing onto the site of the WTC is to be the location of a minor peace protest. I hope those banners stay up, but they also give me the shivers when I think I was there last summer. It was the one area of NY I didn’t photograph.
Old Farmhouse – POTD July 21th, 2004
Naught to say, I’ve been in this building so many times, and have great memories of it.
Black holes mangle Information!
I caught the end of Stephen Hawking’s presentation on TV3 tonight. While the discovery he made broadens the knowledge we have about space and the universe what caught my eye was the sight of the father of a guy I knew years ago in school in the front row! Hey Niall! How’s your dad? 🙂
Later … Here’s a page about the event. It cost €90 to get in to the conference! Ouch.
Farmhouse Framed – POTD July 20th, 2004
This picture was taken near Enniskeane, Co. Cork just over a week ago. Beautiful day then, and the house is nicely framed by the trees.
So What Do You Do, Platon?
Platon, a London photographer living in New York was interviewed on Radio 1 a few minutes ago. It was a great talk, and he has some very entertaining stories! Here’s another interview with the photographer to give a flavour of what he’s like.
“Mr. President, can you show me the love?”
Midland, Texas – Home to George W. Bush and family
Last week The Times magazine ran an article on the town of Midland, Texas. It’s where George W. Bush and his wife live, or I suppose will live after the elections next Autumn. Not sure I want to go visit however.
A lot of people there seem to be quite zealous about religion. They’re waiting for the Rapture to come. When asked what the Rapture was, “there is reluctance among the most seriously committed to spell it out.” But at a local cemetary,
“Well, there’s Laura Bush’s father buried over there,” she says, pointing blithely past tasteful and titanic statuary. “Suppose the President and his wife were to come here this afternoon and the Rapture happens. There’d be bodyguards and press people and stuff. Most of them would be left behind, especially the press people.” She speaks through barely parted lips. “But where the Bushes had been there’d just be piles of clothes on the ground and that pin he wears. They’d be gone – into the air. That’s what we believe.”
Hmm, I’d hate to see Bertie Ahern running around naked without his clothes because I can’t imagine he’d disappear in the Rapture! 😉
In related news, the Sunday Times published an extract from John Edwards’ biography last week. The account of losing his son was heart-breaking and although I don’t agree completely (who sees eye to eye with any politician?) I wish the Democratic Party luck in the coming election.
