A nightclub promotion, shagtag, was due to be held in Mayo but was banned by a District Judge. I tried searching for a news article about it but there’s very littel online except for one on unison.ie (linked above in the Google search) which requires registration. Here’s a realaudio interview with the promotion sponsor.

The last time I bought a 56k modem, it used the V.90 standard but I’ve seen modems in shops that are advertised as supporting a new V.92 standard. Here’s a report on what V.92 actually is and includes a link to an updates page which was only updated a short while ago so it’s probably current.

dvd::rip – A full featured DVD Ripper GUI for Linux, written in Perl – From first impressions this looks very good but I’ll post more later after I’ve ripped a DVD.
I already tried DRIP but it wouldn’t compile on Red Hat 8.0, gcc gave an “internal compiler error” (no, I’m too lazy to post a bug to RH bugzilla.. 😛
Both these programs depend on other software to do the ripping and encoding but everything needed was readily available on freshrpms.net through my local apt-rpm mirror in Dublin!
