The New York Times reports on Coldplay’s favourite subject: moaning! Jon – I don’t admire them either, I bought their first album and only listened to it once. *yawn*

Later.. More on the Coldplay Backlash! I have mixed feelings about them being beaten to the UK No. 1 spot by the Crazy Frog, I can’t imagine a more annoying song than that tune. Thankfully I don’t have to take public transport too often and I’ve been insulated from the worst of teenager’s ringtones.
I smiled when I read this. I can’t listen to Coldplay, Radiohead, Dido and many others for that exact reason – they won’t stop whining. In Radiohead’s case in particular this is most annoying as some of their music is quite good, but the apathetic, depressed, slit-my-wrists simpering that accompanies the music just grates on my nerves.
When are people going to realize that catharsis makes great music? This certainly includes Radiohead and Coldplay. Quite simply, not everyone in the world is as happy-go-lucky as you people, it would seem. Plus, evaluating music based solely on the general attitude of the people that write it implies that you’re probably overlooking many of the redeeming qualities of a particular song, album, or artist. If you want to avoid “whining” altogether, your best bets are Christian Rock or metal that equates volume for actual musical quality.
