Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

I’m about halfway through this book, the inspiration for Blade Runner, and it’s a great read! It’s much better than the film, but also quite different!
I’ve actually had the book quite a while – the Waterstones price tag at the back still has the Irish Punt and Euro prices on it, and I’m sorry I didn’t read it earlier.
Go buy it if you haven’t read it yet!

  1. I am a fan of PK Dick’s work in general and enjoyed Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I am also a huge fan of Blade Runner (it probably counts as my favourite movie). I felt that the book was, unusually, not as good as the movie. On the other hand the two are different enough to be almost incomparable. To say the movie was inspired by the book is about all you can say.

PK Dick is an author worth reading more of if this is your first novel of his.

  2. I started reading one of his short stories before. It was part of a 3 story compendium, and described as one of his “early” efforts. Unfortunately it hadn’t dated very well, and the fact that people in the story still used tape machines supposedly in the 1990’s (or thereabouts) irked me enough that I stopped reading. It was a really weird story too which didn’t help!

  3. Well, if there is one thing he almost always was, it has to be that he was weird. PK Dick was by all accounts paranoid, did more than his share of hallucinogenic drugs and had a breakdown at one point I believe.

  4. I’ve read Do Androids Dream….. for a school report and I am trying to think of how PK Dick uses the Nexus 6 androids to make the reader judge wether Rick Deckard is human or replicant, can anyone help?
