double-declutching and synchromesh
Donncha ,
That link you found explains double (de-)?clutching pretty well. It’s required on very old cars (pre-WWII usually) and on trucks (possibly still?) which do not have synchromesh gearboxes . Synchromesh is essentially a type of clutch:…
syncromesh is NOT a type of clutch it is a type of transmission, one without “synchronizers” which allow smooth shifting “synchros” as they are called are modern equiptment although with semis that have so many gears they don’t do a very good job
Person,
Sorry, I didn’t mean to imply it /is/ a clutch. “Uses friction, as a clutch does,” would have been better wording possibly. Read my actual blog entry, there are links to detailed explanations of synchromesh.
Actually, you are all right. You are also a bunch of homos.
